Wow, this was so, so resonant for me! "Extreme catastrophization" is the best way to describe how OCD feels - I've never been able to articulate it quite so succinctly or perfectly. I recently just published a newsletter on the challenges of living with both an ED and OCD, and I so appreciate this perspective. Looking forward to reading more of your work!
Catherine, thank you so much for this thoughtful comment. "Extreme catastrophization" feels like THE phrase, right? The physical response is so overwhelming, and this phrase has (I think/hope?) helped the non-OCD people in my life understand what's actually going on underneath what might seem like irrational or unnecessary compulsions. I'm eager to read your newsletter, too — thank YOU for sharing! xo

Thanks so much for your response, Katie! I completely agree, and I really appreciate you helping provide language to explain this sensation. <3
